The Agrippa Method

The concept of the Holy Guardian Angel (HGA) is a profound and mystical element within various esoteric traditions, particularly within the Western occult tradition. The HGA is often considered a personal divine guide, an intermediary between the divine and the individual, offering protection, guidance, and spiritual insight.
Origins and Traditions
The roots of the Holy Guardian Angel can be traced back to ancient religious and mystical systems. In Judaism, the idea of personal angels is evident, with each individual having a guardian angel. This concept is further developed in Christian theology, where guardian angels are believed to be assigned to individuals to watch over them and guide them throughout their lives.
Hermetic and Kabbalistic Traditions
In Hermeticism and the Kabbalistic tradition, the Holy Guardian Angel is seen as an essential part of the spiritual journey. It is often associated with the higher self or the divine aspect of the individual. The HGA is not merely a guardian but a teacher and a source of wisdom, helping the individual align with their true will and higher purpose.
Thelema and Aleister Crowley
The modern occult understanding of the Holy Guardian Angel is heavily influenced by the work of Aleister Crowley, an influential occultist and the founder of Thelema. Crowley emphasized the importance of achieving knowledge and conversation with one's HGA as the central goal of spiritual attainment. In his seminal work, "The Book of the Law," and through the practice of the Abramelin Operation (a complex ritual aimed at invoking the HGA), Crowley outlined the process and significance of this divine encounter.
The Abramelin Operation
The Abramelin Operation, detailed in "The Book of Abramelin," is a comprehensive ritual practice designed to establish direct communication with the Holy Guardian Angel. This text, which dates back to the 15th century, describes a rigorous six-month (or longer) process of purification, prayer, and invocation, culminating in the encounter with the HGA. This operation has become a cornerstone for those seeking to attain higher spiritual knowledge and self-realization.
Modern Interpretations and Practices
Today, the concept of the Holy Guardian Angel continues to be a vital part of various esoteric practices, including contemporary ceremonial magic, Thelema, and certain New Age traditions. Practitioners believe that connecting with the HGA leads to profound personal transformation, spiritual enlightenment, and alignment with one's true purpose.
Using Astrology to find the name of your HGA
Amongst the methods of learning the name of your HGA, there exists a plug n play method which uses astrology. This is outlined by Agrippa in his Three Books of Occult Philosophy Bk iii, Ch 26 and expounded on in The Celestial Way by Christopher Warnock. Basically, the name is constructed by assigning a letter of the alphabet to every degree of the zodiac, and then using five different aspects of your chart, such as your sun sign, moon sign etc, finding what degree in the zodiac they are placed in. So first, you will need your natal chart for most of the letters.*
*It is important to note that some sites number the degrees from 0-29 while others number them 1-30. So keep that in mind from source to source.
(1 2 3 4 5)
The first letter of the name is the degree of Sol
The second letter of the name is the degree of your Luna
The third letter of the name is the degree of your ascendant
The Fourth letter of the name is your Part of Fortune
The Fifth letter of the name is your Pre-natal Syzygy*
*This is the degree of the full or new moon most immediately prior to your birth.
Once you have all that information, use the following charts to plug the name in:

English
Hebrew
Greek
The next thing to do would be to add the suffix "-iah" (Feminine) or "-el" )Masculine) to the end of the name. For example, if your angel's name is "fhajo" (I just randomly hit five keys,) then your angel's name would be "Fhajoel" or "Fhajoiah,"*
*roughly, since the vowels in Hebrew can be tricky.
The next thing you're going to want to do is create a sigil for your HGA. Let's continue with the example of "Fhajo(el)" Let's assume the name is composed of the following degrees:
F - 5 of Aries
H - 3 of Taurus
A - 18 of Gemini
J - 5 of Taurus
O - 2 of Cancer
ו (Vav)
ל (Lamed)
מ (Mem)
נ (Nun)
ה (Heh)
As you can see, in Hebrew, the name is much different. A transliteration would look something like:
VLMNH or VLMNHEL
Now how is this final form pronounced? VEH-LOO-MAN-ELL? VAH-LAH-MOON-HELL? In proper Hebrew things like this matter but we aren't working with proper Hebrew. So write out as many variations as you can or have AI generate variations and go with what sounds right to you. Anyway, what's important right now is the sigil. Here's how you make it:

The Rosey Cross Method
Trace out the letters of the name of the angel, stopping to make a point at each letter consecutively. Draw a circle on the first letter and a line on the last. Like this:

You now have your angel's sigil:

For Greek, do the same. Except use this layout created by Sam Block:

Which ever you want, I suppose. Draw it on paper. Paint it on wood. or etch it into metal. Or pay me to engrave it for you :) Either way, establish relationship by evoking often. Find a Prayer to the Holy Guardian Angel and replace/add your Angel's name. Or Perform The NAP Ritual but substitute the name of Arzel for the name of your angel and gaze at it's sigil upon doing so for 28 days in a row beginning on your synodic period.
